General:
The St Peters Brewery supplied its first keg of beer at the end of June 2000.
Versatile proprietor-brewer Matt Donelan runs all aspects of this small operation;
from production and maintenance, to marketing, to delivery. The brewery has one
staple brand, St Peters Blonde, which is available only on draught.
In addition to the staple, Donelan also produces a range of limited-edition
cask-conditioned ales which are available at monthly real ale sessions at
the Nags Head Hotel, Glebe (first Friday of the month, from 5 p.m.).
St Peters Brewery is also the source of Thunderbolt Strong Ale, produced
for the Pumphouse Bar at Darling Harbour. The Pumphouse once had its
own brewery, but it ceased production in 1996. Thunderbolt Ale had
such a strong following, however, that visitors years afterwards would
still ask for it. The Pumphouse recently approached Donelan about
recreating the old brew, which he did in collaboration with former
Pumphouse brewer David Taylor.
