General:
When five new owners took over a defunct brewery in Victoria's Yarra Valley
in mid-2001, they were faced with three difficult problems. They couldn't think
of a new name for their brewery; they didn't have a site for it; and they
weren't sure that they could even make their beers in commercial quantities.
In short, they feared that they had Buckley's chance of making a success of it.
This fear soon became the solution to their first problem and Buckley's Beers
was born.
Late in 2002 the brewery was removed to a new site in nearby Healesville, and
now it is plain that its products are commercially viable; Buckley's Pilz won
two silver awards (for packaged and draught) at the Australian International
Beer Awards in 2003.
Beers:
Buckley's Bitter (?% alc)
Dark in colour, with a medium-bodied palate, balanced with generous bitterness
(from the inclusion of fresh hops in the kettle) and a long dry finish.
Available in bottles only.
Buckley's Original Ale (4.9% alc)
Full-bodied, deep amber in colour, with a tight creamy head.
The complex aroma comes from a blend of four malts (one Australian and three European).
Hops are from north-eastern Victoria, Germany, The United States, and the United Kingdom.
Buckley's Pilz (4.5% alc)
A full-flavoured, golden-coloured lager with good malt character, a dominant flowery hop character, and
a dry finish. Pils is bottle and cask-conditioned.
