Billabong Brewery has been around for years, but until recently only as a Brew-On-Premises brewery. In fact it was Australia's first BOP shop (or at least one of the first), established in 1993. In January 2006, Billabong obtained a producer's licence to enable it to develop and sell commercially a range of gluten-free beers, which were launched in September 2006 (why shouldn't Coeliac sufferers drink beer too?). In addition, a range of 'normal' beers is now produced. These include the multi-awarded 4 Hop Ale, winner of a silver medal at the inaugural Sydney Royal Beer Show in February 2007, and more recently of a gold in the 'Amber Ale' class at the 2007 AIBA in Melbourne.
